County resources below help you identify the right agencies and understand which jurisdiction a report describes.
County coverage
Local context matters.
Our coverage centers on Harris County and these six surrounding counties. Use these resources to find official information, understand jurisdiction, and follow stories in context. These are coverage areas, not claims of local offices or guaranteed installation availability.
Harris County vehicle-theft resources
Houston, Pasadena, Humble, Cypress and the surrounding communities. Houston city records and Harris County Sheriff records describe different jurisdictions. Check the incident location before choosing an agency or comparing totals. HCSO’s auto-theft work includes investigations, recoveries and public awareness; HPD also operates a dedicated auto-crimes program.
Official Harris County resourceMontgomery County vehicle-theft resources
Conroe, The Woodlands, Magnolia and nearby communities. The Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force is described by TxDMV as a multi-agency operation. For a new incident, start with the agency serving the location rather than assuming a task-force office is the initial dispatch point. Preserve the exact address and last-seen time for the report.
Official Montgomery County resourceFort Bend County vehicle-theft resources
Sugar Land, Richmond, Rosenberg, Missouri City and nearby communities. Fort Bend County’s Auto Theft Unit covers vehicle theft, organized theft rings and related investigations. Its official page also explains vehicle-inspection requirements. An inspection appointment is a different service from reporting a stolen vehicle; use the appropriate reporting channel.
Official Fort Bend County resourceGalveston County vehicle-theft resources
Galveston, Texas City, Dickinson, League City and nearby communities. TxDMV lists the Galveston County Auto Crimes Task Force among its regional resources. When an incident occurs during a coastal visit or an overnight stay, keep the parking location and property contact information. A recovery somewhere else does not change where the original theft occurred.
Official Galveston County resourceBrazoria County vehicle-theft resources
Pearland, Alvin, Angleton, Lake Jackson and nearby communities. Report based on the incident’s actual location, particularly when a city or mailing address crosses a county boundary. Keep vehicle identification and a case number available if another agency later contacts you about a recovery. County-level coverage should identify Brazoria explicitly rather than applying Houston totals to the area.
Official Brazoria County resourceWaller County vehicle-theft resources
Hempstead, Prairie View, Brookshire and nearby communities. Waller County’s official sheriff page is a starting point for county contact information. For a vehicle taken within a municipality, verify which agency takes the initial report. Work trucks and trailers also benefit from accessible records of identification, equipment and ownership.
Official Waller County resourceChambers County vehicle-theft resources
Anahuac, Mont Belvieu, the Chambers County side of Baytown and nearby communities. Chambers County’s official sheriff page links to current agency information. Baytown-area incidents need a precise location because county boundaries matter. When following a regional recovery or pursuit, separate the place a vehicle was stolen from the place police found it.
Official Chambers County resourceFor an emergency, call 911. Use the agency responsible for the incident location for non-emergency reporting. The GTA Houston quote form does not submit a police report.
